One Small Voice. A Lot of Big Ideas. Let Freedom Ring!

Got Energy? Got Jobs? Got Energy Jobs? Get ‘em with Romney.

Coal

From humanevents.com:

“OhioAmerican Energy, Inc. (“OhioAmerican”), a Subsidiary of Murray Energy Corporation (“Murray Energy”), today announced the closure of its coal mining operations near Brilliant, Jefferson County, Ohio.

Regulatory actions by President Barack Obama and his appointees and followers were cited as the entire reason.  “Mr. Obama has already destroyed 83,000 megawatts of coal-fired electricity generation in America,” said Mr. Michael T. W. Carey, Vice President of Government Affairs for Murray Energy”…read more

While we all know that natural gas is quickly replacing the coal for producing electricity in America there are more export markets available for our 200-year supply of American coal. And when the EPA backs off, US power plants still have the option of using coal.

Romney’s Plan:

  • Eliminate Regulations destroying the coal industry. Amend the Clean Air Act to exclude the regulation of carbon.

Keystone Pipeline

President Obama killed the Keystone Pipeline because of environmental concerns, primarily global warming. Canada is going to extract the oil and build a pipeline to supply someone, possibly China, so Obama’s concerns are completely without merit. In the meantime, a secure energy source from an ally and hundreds and thousands of jobs were cut off at the knees.

Romney’s Plan:

  • Approve construction of the Keystone Pipeline

US Oil and Natural Gas

While hailing new offshore drilling in other parts of the world, such as Brazil, President Obama has squashed efforts for new drilling off-shore and oil exploration on land in America. Following the BP disaster, the moratorium on drilling destroyed 10,000 jobs and cost $1Billion in lost wages.

While the Obama administration “brags” about an increase in drilling, what he doesn’t explain is that most of the “new” drilling is from permits issued during the Bush administration. There is a backlog of permits waiting to be issued. In fact, the Obama administration was found in contempt by a Judge in Florida for not issuing permits in a timely manner.

Romney’s Plan:

  • Streamline and fast track the permitting process.

Open onshore and off-shore reserves for exploration and drilling.

Nuclear Energy:

A new nuclear energy facility has not opened in the US in three decades. One of the reasons is the outdated guidelines and limited capabilities of the Nuclear Regulatory commission.

Romney’s Plan

  • Update the NRC capabilities and streamline procedures for licensing.

The benefits of increased energy production in America:

  • More energy on the market forces prices downward.
  • More American energy sources in development will create billions of dollars in tax revenue and hundreds of thousands of new jobs.
  • Producing more energy in America improves our trade imbalance and strengthens our weak dollar.

It’s More than Energy. It’s Jobs.

 Romney’s Plan vs Obama’s Performance

Obama’s Performance

-19,000 jobs –Gulf drilling moratorium

- 250,000 jobs threatened by Obama’s war on carbon & hazardous air pollutants targeting coal-fired plants

-800,000 jobs threatened by Obama administration Boiler MACT regulation

- 7,300,000 – threatened by Obama’s proposed ozone regulation

Romney’s Plan

+ 131,0000 – potential jobs for construction of Keystone Pipeline

+280,000-potential  jobs for gas shale extraction in NY, OH, PA, WV alone.

+1,200,00 – potential jobs for expanded off-shore drilling

Did I mention gas prices? More energy produced in  America = Less Pain at the Pump. Period.

Romney needs to tout his 8 year energy independence plan. Americans would get excited about it if HE would…..we really do have enough energy to be independent if we worked at it. And the jobs it would create …and the capital it would keep in this country. Yes, Romney is on the right track…HE juust has to put the “petal to the metal”…so to speak. AND GET EXCITED!

And the most heated bouts of sparring were over energy policy; the candidates nit-picked Obama’s record of drilling for oil on public lands, argued over wind power jobs, and declared their love for coal, coal, coal. As for climate change, surprise — it wasn’t mentioned a single time. That’s three debates and nary a mention of climate change. Which isn’t just crazy because this year is breaking all kinds of heat and extreme weather records — it’s also crazy because they spent so much time talking about energy and managed to avoid the topic altogether.
